Does anyone know of a substitute for block printing ink retarder?

I'm trying to get my holiday cards out before Valentine's Day, but I can't seem to find any retarder in this town and FedEx isn't on schedule just now. I'm working with Speedball water-based block printing inks. I'm appreciate any suggestions.
