Clouds Sky

Why is the line between the clouds and the clear sky so defined? Photo inside?

This is the photo I took of the sunset. This picture is a panoramic but I haven't changed the lighting or saturation, this came straight out of the camera.
I'm just curious... why is the line that separates the clear sky from the clouds so defined? Is there a reason?
Thank you!
This picture looks like it was taken near the coast. I used to live along the Texas coast and did daily weather observations as a young meteorologist by looking at the sky at least once an hour. This picture brings back memories of the type of sky I see often when I lived there.
Anyway, what I think you are seeing is the difference in heating between the land and a large body of water. The ground over the land will heat up more during the day and so you will having rising air over the inland areas. With rising air, patches of clouds will form over the hotter inland areas. However, once you move over the water, the surface water temperature is cooler than that of the land and beach areas, so you will have sinking air over the body of water. So over water, the sinking air will keep the skies clear. That sharp cloud boundary marks where the coastline should be below.
