Original Painting
LS Lowrie Original painting. Any ideas on how much it is worth and where the best place would be to sell?
My friend has a1940's 'Matchstick Men and Matchstick Cats and Dogs' original painting. He is now thinking of selling it and was wondering what it would bring in auction and where the best place would be to sell it. It is in good condition apart from slight damage around the edges
If it is signed "Lowrie" rather than "Lowry" then it is likely to be a fake... 
There are potentially a few of Lowry's out there. According to this BBC article from September 2005,

"Many paintings were sold to private individuals and often stayed in the family, so there may be a few unseen paintings out there," This one was old in Christie's 20th Century British Art sale.

As previous posters mentioned, you will need to ensure it has provenance (for example, a bill of sale or receipt) and your best bet would be to contact one of the auction houses (or both), such as Christies or Sothebys to get a valutation.
