Colours for the background of a watercolour painting?

I am looking for ideas on the colours I could choose for the background to a still life I have painted, the colours in the still life a predominantly warm colours, browns, reds and yellows, and I'm really unsure of what colour to put in the background. The objects are all very homely objects.

Backgrounds of complementary colors would work best. Blues, grays, greens would work well for brown, red and yellow, painted in values opposite the COI. For example, dark background for light objects, dark background for light objects. Not black or white but intensity of the color or colors.
